THE RESIDENCE

Once a year, we organise an artist residency at La Casa Móvil during the autumn. Our intention is to host artists from all over the world in the unique rural and natural environment of the Sierra de Cádiz, generating a network of exchange and connection with local artists and projects.
Algodonales is a white village located 60 minutes from Seville, 60 minutes from Jerez and 90 minutes from Malaga, on the edge of the Sierra de Líjar, in a wonderful natural environment, full of mountains, forests, rivers, old orchards and crossed by the water that runs through the irrigation channels from one end of the village to the other. This enclave makes this place a unique context in which to bond with nature and create in/with it. Our residency focuses on the fundamental aspect of being human, and therefore on everything related to our own inner experience, a greater awareness of life and the processes related to the earth, a return to the body, and attention to aspects such as the emotional and spiritual. All this from a personal and community perspective.
OBJECTIVES
Our main objective is to promote artistic exploration and creation as well as the exhibition of works and processes of our residents.
In addition, we are especially interested in generating a rich climate of personal and cultural exchange between international and local creators, expanding individual and shared experiences and including new languages that help to make contemporary art visible in the rural environment and to generate a broader, richer and more diverse contact with nature and with the people.
Proposals will be valued if they are committed to making visible aspects such as:
*generating personal and social awareness,
*build a network, value the community,
*democratising art, making it accessible and part of the rural network.
All of this with CARE at the centre.
STUDIOS AND EXHIBITION SPACE
The house has space to accommodate 4 or 5 artists simultaneously in spacious studio-rooms for individual use with private bathroom. We also have a common area which is a work and exhibition space. We work in collaboration with the EcoAlbergue of Algodonales which has a large room for body work and wonderful outdoor garden areas. The Algodonales Town Hall also offers us the exhibition room in the Local Art Museum of Algodonales.
The house has wifi connection, interior patio with swimming pool, fully equipped kitchen and exterior work area.
CONDITIONS
Artists of any artistic discipline are welcome as long as their approaches are in line with the philosophy and proposal of La Casa Móvil.
Visual arts / Textile art / Small format sculpture / Ceramics* / Dance / Theatre / Performance / Music / Writing / Illustration / Educational programmes / New media.
Projects must be carried out within the residency period of one week. Artists in Residence will be able to exhibit their work to the public at an Open Day on the last Sunday of their stay, giving them the opportunity to share their creative process and their experience at the Residence with the public.
Artists in Residence who apply for one of the places will receive a discount from La Casa Móvil that covers half of the cost of the Residence, which is a total of 420€ and for a period of one week. Therefore each artist will be responsible for the payment of €210 + taxes (10%). This covers accommodation, use of studio, heating and water, as well as mentoring and art therapy accompaniment (one individual session/artist).
Each artist is asked to submit a workshop proposal to be carried out with local residents and/or specific local collectives.
The artists will have to find their own funding. The Mobile House can assist artists seeking grants by providing a letter of invitation.
What is not included in this price?
The price does not include food, travel from the place of origin to the place of Residence, medical insurance, artistic materials and artistic production and daily living expenses.
The deposit for Residencies at La Casa Móvil is 50% of the fee for a one-week stay.
La Casa Móvil, Casa de Artistas, is a self-managed project and all our income is used to achieve our objectives.
Note * in the event that an artist has paid their deposit, but is subsequently unable to attend on the dates we have agreed, please note that deposits are non-refundable. The deposit is retained for the next opportunity for the artist to be in residence.
Accompanying family members are welcome subject to the contribution of the same fees as the artist in residence.
HOW TO APPLY?
To apply for one of the places you must send us the following documents by email:
A sample of your previous work (web page, pdf or similar).
CV maximum two pages. It must include personal information: name and surname, date of birth, nationality, passport number.
A motivation letter explaining the project to be carried out and artistic motivation (maximum 200 words).
WORKING LANGUAGES
Spanish and English.
SELECTION PROCESS
Once the deadline for sending applications has opened, we will respond to each of them within two weeks once the necessary documentation has been sent to start the selection process. The selection of artists will be communicated by email to each of the interested parties a maximum of one month prior to the start date of the Residencies.
